President's Message:

Aloha Members and Friends, 

Living and designing in Hawaii is an interesting and rewarding enterprise.  A favorite aspect of life here is the cultural integration that we experience. 

January 23, 2012 is Chinese New Year, and also the Year of the Water Dragon.  The Feng Shui Horoscope describes this year as transformational and life-changing.  Generally speaking, there should be more “goodies” than in 2011; however you may interpret that prediction.  It is also a good year for self-improvement, and entering into calculated investments to build wealth.  This year is thought to hold much promise and could be a major transition in one’s life.  As in all predictions, it all depends on how the individual decides to “ride the mighty water dragon”. 

There are many fabulous festivities honoring Chinese New Year throughout the state, and it is my hope that you are able to engage yourself in this very special time of year. 

Most of all, I wish you the best for this coming year.  May we all embrace the Year of the Dragon with a zest for life and a fresh enthusiasm!

Happy New Year Members and friends,

New Years always give me a “fresh start” feeling and this year, in spite of the weather, is no different; even though I must start the New Year off by recruiting a slate for this year’s board elections. We will be looking for three positions, one of which is president-elect to serve under Valorie Spence’s term. But the work will be balanced with some fun events, the first of which will be game night with the entire design community.

From March 21st to the 31st our ASID national president, Michael Thomas, FASID, CAPS will be visiting the islands. We are very fortunate to have him here to host seminars on Oahu and on Maui. Both events will be offered as webinars as well so for those who would like to attend but cannot due to logistics look for more details to come on attending the seminars from your office. During that time we will have other events that offer members the chance to meet with him as well as opportunities for industry partners to introduce their companies or products to our members.

We also begin the New Year with a couple of job postings so be sure to check out the details on our website under the bulletin board section for members only. And while you are there, if you are looking for a job you are welcome to post your resume for others to review as well.

The AAUW house was a great location for the Christmas party and a great time was had by all. The house is available at very reasonable costs for any party or meeting you may have so keep them in mind when you are planning events. I’m sure we’ll see you there for Christmas next year as well.
